In addition to our philanthropic support of Children’s Miracle Network and other charitable causes, Phi Mus are encouraged to engage in hands-on community service. Throughout the year, Phi Mu collegiate and alumnae chapters across the country volunteer their time and talents in a variety of service projects to improve their local communities.
In 1999, Phi Mu was the first sorority to establish a National Philanthropy Day. Held the third week of each October, National Philanthropy Day encourages Phi Mu members to complete a hands-on service project of their choice. Examples of service projects have included writing encouraging letters to our troops serving overseas, assembling goodie bags for patients at local rehabilitation centers, volunteering at local animal shelters and serving meals at homeless shelters.
At each national convention, we recognize an outstanding alumna and collegian for their community service and also recognize chapters for their community service hours. In Phi Mu, we celebrate our members who exemplify our Creed and are committed “to lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.”
