Share the Gift of Sisterhood

Membership in Phi Mu is not just for women who pledged and were initiated in college. Since the earliest days of the Fraternity, women have joined Phi Mu through Alumnae Initiation. Each year, dozens of women join Phi Mu in this way, affiliating with the chapter of their choice. Their reasons for and paths to becoming a member differ. Many were unable to join a sorority in college for various reasons; some even pledged Phi Mu but were not initiated due to various obstacles. Some find their way to Phi Mu when their daughter or granddaughter is initiated. Regardless of their circumstances, these women are now Phi Mus because a member invited them to join and experience the many benefits of our sisterhood.

Alumnae Initiation Process

Submit an Application

Any Phi Mu in good standing can nominate an outstanding woman for Alumnae Initiation, this includes collegians and phis. The online Alumnae Initiation Application requests information about the candidate and her Phi Mu sponsor. Applications are submitted through MyPhiMu under the tab “Alumna Initiation Application”.

Application Process

Completed applications are processed and approved by the Alumnae Engagement Department at the National Headquarters. Once approved, the potential new member will receive a welcome email with the next steps.

Requirements Prior to Initiation

Each alumna initiate pays a fee of $284 which includes her initiation dues, membership certificate and first year of Forever Faithful alumnae dues. She will also purchase a badge of her choice. Prior to initiation the new member will have access to complete New Member Learning Modules which include the history of Phi Mu and what comes after initiation. It is the sponsor’s responsibility to work with Headquarters on the initiation date and location. We do offer virtual initiation for those that aren’t able to attend an in person initiation.

Post-Initiation

We highly encourage Alumnae Initiates to get involved in a local Alumnae Chapter. There are many opportunities to volunteer in Phi Mu as well. You can volunteer locally through a collegiate advisory council or on the Executive Board of your Alumnae Chapter. You can also volunteer on an area or national level.
